The Freedom of Information Act or FOIA, as it is commonly known, allows for the full or partial disclosure of previously unreleased information and documents controlled by the United States Government. While the Act went into effect over 40 years ago, substantial changes and updates have been enacted over the course of the last four decades. In 2005, Executive Order 13392 mandated additional changes to the manner in which the government responds to FOIA requests. Due to these modifications and the ever-increasing number of FOIA requests, the processing, evaluation, and administration of FOIA requests has become increasingly visible. Additionally, information requested via the Act must be reconciled with other applicable laws and regulations such as the Privacy Act to ensure the appropriate release of information. The need for accuracy, accountability and timeliness along with the recent changes in the Act have resulted in the greatest need for qualified professionals providing FOIA support since the inception of the Act. Data Federal currently performs FOIA and Privacy Act support services for several federal agencies. Viewing the increased need for FOIA support services, Data Federal developed a focused FOIA practice to complement our federal paralegal practice. As part of our approach, we work closely with our customers to understand their unique needs, situations, and goals. We then tailor a solution that drives real value for the client. When technology is part of the equation, we take a "technology-agnostic" approach. We first determine the needs of the client, factor in budgetary constraints and current infrastructure realities, and only then do we make a information technology determination, which is targeted to serve the needs of the client first.
